In the Expanse there actually IS an asteroid defence network, so they already have the normal case worked out. The OPA rocks were coated with Martian stealth paint so the defense network never saw them until they realized what was going on.

Instead of using nukes why not use high level sound waves to move the asteroids away from Earth it would be a much safer option than using nukes
